The Higher Purpose Films Filmmakers Residency Program Is A Free 7-Month Program That Provides Aspiring Black Mississippi-Based Filmmakers With The Opportunity To Gain Industry Experience By Developing Compelling, Story-Driven, Feature Documentary Films.
Higher Purpose Films is excited to announce its Filmmakers Residency Program, which will support Black filmmakers from Mississippi in the early stages of developing their documentary films. This is an amazing opportunity for you to learn from some of the best in the business and create work that tells your unique story.
What Is The Higher Purpose Films Filmmakers Residency Program?
The Higher Purpose Films Filmmakers Residency Program is a 7-month film program that aims to support interested Black filmmakers from Mississippi in the early stages of developing compelling, story-driven, feature documentary films. Filmmakers will be allowed to participate in developing independent documentary projects at all stages of production under professional mentorship. In addition, the film program will allow residents to increase their knowledge of production and broaden their background with direct public broadcasting experience. The Residency Program includes a $2,500 grant and a curated mentor whose work and artistic approach align with Higher Purpose Co's mission.
Who Is Eligible To Apply?
In order to be eligible for the Higher Purpose Films Filmmaker Residency Program, filmmakers must be legal residents of the state of Mississippi. P.O. Boxes are not acceptable addresses, and filmmakers must be 18 years of age or older. Filmmakers must also be able to commit to 1 hour of virtual biweekly meetings. If they have already been awarded a grant, they are no longer eligible to apply. Finally, filmmakers are required to sign a commitment contract and confidentiality agreement.

The Higher Purpose Films Filmmakers Residency Program will begin promptly on November 1st, 2022 and will end on May 31st, 2023. In order to be eligible for consideration filmmakers must submit their applications by October 17th, 2022. The first round of applicants will be notified on October 24, 2022 and the final participates will be notified no later than October 28, 2022 of our final decision.
